Ian Peers is a cofounder and Chief Executive Officer of Inferstats. He is a chartered professional Statistician with over 25 years’ experience in academic and corporate organisations. His statistical experience spans research, consulting and technical training. Ian has accrued a wealth of statistical experience in scientific, clinical and psychological areas. This includes drug discovery, biopharmaceuticals research, psychometrics, clinical development and clinical trials support across several therapy areas and all phases of drug development. He has also led research programmes in clinical and psychological test development.
Currently he holds a Director position in AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Global Medicines Development and previously was Global Head of pre-clinical and translational statistics in AstraZeneca Innovative Medicines where he was responsible for growing, in just four years, a pre-clinical statistics team of 7 into a global Department of 28 statisticians based in Europe, US and Asia. Ian is a Royal Statistical Society Chartered Statistician, Chartered Scientist, UK Science Council and an honorary professor at the University of Stirling.
Peter Ceuppens is a cofounder and Chief Financial Officer of Inferstats. He is a chartered professional statistician with over 25 years experience in pharmaceutical statistics. His experience spans pre-clinical and clinical phases and includes regulatory safety, assay validation, experimental design, in-vivo models, synthetic chemistry optimisation, consumer product testing and statistical training across a range of therapy areas. Pete held the position of Associate director in Statistics at AstraZeneca for a number of years and in March 2016 decided to leave AstraZeneca to devote 100% of his time to Inferstats Consulting. He has most recently led statistics teams specializing in respiratory and cardio vascular diseases, based across a number of different regions. Based in the US for a number of years he led statistical input to pre-clinical oncology and infection therapy areas and supported AZ's corporate standard in vivo Good Statistical Practice (GSP) which mandates the use of statistical design and analysis procedures in the conduct of scientific studies. More recently Pete served as statistician to the Global Science and Animal Welfare committee in AZ. Peter is a recognised as a chartered statistician by the Royal Statistical Society, a post he has held since 1993.
Brian Middleton is an Associate Partner and has worked closely with Ian, Peter and Marie for the last 10 years within AstraZeneca and now within Inferstats consulting. He is also a Royal Statistical Society Chartered Statistician with 35 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Having started his statistical career supporting clinical development he moved to gain experience in pre-clinical drug discovery, including regulatory safety, experimental design, assay validation and monitoring, in-vivo models, DMPK and high-dimensional data support to emerging technologies. Brian has led technical development within AZ Discovery Statistics for the last 13 years. He has written guidance documents for scientists, statistical training modules and has provided technical input underpinning many of AZ's scientific projects and drug programmes. He has provided consulting support and training to scientists globally across several therapy areas. Despite years of support, Brian is still passionate about statistical consulting, new scientific problems and the development of statistical solutions
Marie South is an Associate Partner of Inferstats. She is a Royal Statistical Society Chartered Statistician with over 20 years’ experience in medical, manufacturing and research settings, primarily within the pharmaceutical industry. Marie has expertise in process improvement, experimental design, variation reduction and assay development with extensive experience of working to GMP and GLP standards. Her recent roles have included global leadership of AstraZeneca’s team providing expert statistical input into nonclinical studies for drug safety assessment, and leadership of teams delivering bioinformatics and statistics solutions to oncology and neuroscience drug discovery projects. She was pivotal to the introduction of AstraZeneca’s Good Statistical Practice Standard for Animal Work, leading key aspects of the development, implementation and training and attracting a company 3Rs award.
Neil Raval is a Non -Executive Director of Inferstats. His background lies in Organisational Development, Coaching, Change and Project management expertise within supply chain, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments and R&D in blue chip organisations. Neil is one of the founders of CCMR Consulting Ltd. a consultancy specialising in creating efficient and effective teams and individuals. He is particularly interested in coaching and developing management and leadership team efficiency and effectiveness. Neil leads education programmes to share his skills and experience with clients who want to become better communicators, behave as collaborators with an enthusiasm for innovation and want to develop their ability to define the results that they want to achieve and then make that happen.
In March 2016, a group of Statisticians decided to spin out from AstraZeneca pharmaceuticals and Inferstats Consulting was set up. Each of our statistical consultants has over 20 years statistical experience in corporate pharmaceuticals working across different sectors of Pharmaceutical R&D supporting colleagues in US, Europe and Asia.
